The Rally Tab the comfort of racing with a digital roadbook is like watching TV. Just switch it on and enjoy the ride.
The E road-book is easy to set up yourself, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure it out.
Since I started using the Rally Tab life has not been the same, I can build my own tracks within a day or go ride with it without any problems. No need for paper, pens, or printing just plug and play.
The Rally Tab is as tough as Chuck Norris no fall too hard or no sun too bright to stop the Rally Tab in its tracks
I bought the Rally Tab from Wilem Avenant Racing to use the GPS function for a twelve day trip in Northern Namibia, riding up to the Kunene with numerous remote dry riverbed sections.
The roadbook function is obviously included, but I did not opt for the control function which comes separately for the roadbook use.
The quality, ease of use, stability, battery life, and visibility in direct sunlight is outstanding. I downloaded GPX pro and bought the detailed map of Namibia beforehand.
The Rally Tab worked flawlessly and visibility was outstanding. My scale was set incorrectly on the first day of a riverbed track next to the Kunene.
This caused me to take a wrong fork on the track. It came as a pleasant surprise that the Rally Tab immediately showed me a direct line and distance back to the track, the so-called
" Route Guidance" function.
I am very impressed by the Rally Tab's rugged design, functionality, and ease of use.
The visibility of the screen is much better than for instance the Garmin Montana and 590, which I have used on adventure bikes before.
My first experience using the tablet/electronic road book was actually in race conditions.
The tablet proved well to be reliable, I had no problems are glitches with the system or app and it made life a lot easier without having to load the paper scroll road book every morning or at a refuel while racing saving a lot of time.
With regards to visibility first thing in the morning and later afternoon the road book was good being able to see clearly, but when the sun was directly above at midday I did find it difficult to see the road book.
The road book fitted nicely onto my Rally navigation mount and very easy to connect. Literary plug and play and very little wiring keeping it simple.
Having used traditional ICO's and F2R roadbook setups in the past, the Rally Tab is like going from a horse and buggy to a Tesla. Admittedly, I only used both at an amateur level but the Rally Tab is a slick, intuitive navigation package that just works right out of the box. All I had to do was run a power line from the battery, attach the supplied case/arms and switch to the handlebars, and start navigating. No problems, no software glitches, and when I got lost a GPS (that I figured out on the fly) how to 'unlost' myself. Willem has developed a product that is the proverbial 'better mousetrap'
My experience with the Rally Tab has been very positive. Willem has been extremely responsive throughout the entire purchase process. Until recently, I had never navigated by roadbook, and the tablet plus accessories made it very easy for me to get started. I have now caught the bug and am working on a series of roadbooks to practice with in my local area! The tablet itself seems to be very rugged and built for purpose. One big advantage is that it doubles as an Android device, so I also have email and my favorite apps along for the ride.
Decided to move to the electronic tablet for a number of reasons. Those being
- Much easier to setup
- Way less wiring
- Lighter
- Ease of use
- Not having to print paper road-books any more
Thus far the unit has been great with no issues. Works really well even in the midday sun. An added benefit is that you can use it for normal maps too when adventure riding.
